Scarlett Johansson, American actress (born on November 22, 1985, in New York City New York) has received acclaim for her acting abilities across various genres from historical dramas, thrillers and action adventures. Johansson was born in New York City, and lived there with her father, an architect, and mother who produced. Hunter is the sister of Johansson was also born in New York City. At a very young age, she developed a passion for acting. She began performing in commercials by the age seven. She joined the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute shortly after and was a student at the Professional Children's School, Manhattan to further her education. Johansson was later seen on the screen in Just Cause (1995), however, her breakthrough came through Manny & Lo a coming of age drama about sisters who run away. Next, she received high praise from critics for her performance as an teen girl who suffered an accident that left her disfigured as she appeared in The Horse Whisperer (1998). The film gained her more acclaim for her performance in Ghost World (2002) as the cynical outcast Rebecca.
